Here are instructions for downloading and installing the guides on your computer.

1. INSTALL A DOWNLOAD MANAGER PROGRAM.

Due to the very large size of these files you must use a download manager program to avoid problems with the download. A download manager speeds up the download (often by 400%), assures the files are completely downloaded and can check their integrity. If there is a brief server-interrupt during the download (and there is a very good chance of this) the download manager will resume the download without a problem. You'll be glad to have the download manager next time you go to download something from the Internet.

So, before you start the download, go to www.freedownloadmanager.org and download and install this excellent, free program.

When you make your payment for the cruising guide you will immediately be transferred to a page with two links for downloading the cruising guide and the companion activities and tourism guide. An email is sent to you with the same links, detailed download and installation instructions and your Order Number. Be sure to keep the order number because you will need it for activation of the cruising guide.

2. DOWNLOAD THE CRUISING GUIDE FILE

The Cruising Guide file is called INSTALL-CRUISING-NEWCALEDONIA.EXE and is 563MB.

The Companion Activities Guide is called INSTALL-NEW-CALEDONIA.EXE and is 724MB.

IF THE COMPUTER YOU USE TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE IS NOT THE ONE YOU PLAN TO USE WHEN ACTUALLY CRUISING, DOWNLOAD OR COPY THE VANUATUCRUISING.ZIP FILE ONTO A USB KEY AND TRANSFER IT TO THE COMPUTER YOU INTEND TO USE IT ON. THE GUIDE WILL ONLY BE ACTIVATED FOR ONE COMPUTER!

Do not try to install the guides directly from the USB key, first copy the programs to the desk top and then double click on them to start the installation (Windows 7 computers using Microsoft essentials freezes when you try to install a program from a USB key. If you deactivate Microsoft essentials you can install files from the USB key.)

The companion guide does not need to be activated and you can use it on any computer you own.

In any case, when you start the download, be sure you check to see where the file is being downloaded to.

3. INSTALL THE GUIDES ON THE COMPUTER YOU WILL USE THEM ON WHILE CRUISING

After the download is complete double click on INSTALL-CRUISING-NEWCALEDONIA.EXE. A normal Windows installation wizard will guide you through the installation process.

READ the notice about activation in the last window of the installation wizard! Please.

Also note that some antivirus programs (like Avast) offer to run programs in a "sandbox". This means the program runs in a virtual space isolated from the rest of your computer. But if you accept this the program can't be activated and it is unable to run. You must select the option to run the program normally and also check the box to remember this choice. The sandbox will prevent any program that needs to be activated from running on your computer.

Double click on INSTALL-NEW-CALEDONIA.EXE and follow the wizard to install the tourism guide to New Caledonia. This does not have to be activated.

4. ACTIVATE THE CRUISING GUIDE.

The Cruising Guide needs to be activated. Be sure to activate it on the computer you intend to use while cruising. Details on activation are given during the installation process and also here.

After activation you can quickly discover how to use all the features of guide by clicking on the ? icon.

6. MAKE A BACKUP CD

You should copy the installation files to a CD as a backup .
